Fix it, don’t bin it

Volunteer repairers from CFB Zero Waste group and Holt group Tools for Self Reliance were kept busy mending a selection of household items on Saturday 14 March 2020.  Items brought in to the Repair Cafe included a vintage Hoover vacuum cleaner, a wheelbarrow wheel, lamps, alarm clocks and a bag.  Lou, from the Sunflower Studios furniture upcycling pop-up shop, was there with tips on how to re-love old furniture.

Plenty of tea and biscuits were consumed and a raffle helped raise money for male cancer charity Orchid www.orchidcancer.org.uk.   Jess Thimbleby, who helped organised the café, said: “Thanks to everyone who volunteered and came along.  We were really pleased to help so many people mend much-loved, useful items and to raise £122.65 for Orchid.

A number of people volunteered their mending skills for a future Repair Café and the group hope to run another one in the autumn
