July update

It transpired that the cycle swarm morphed into a ‘Walk the Side Streets’ action. Trevor Bedeman of White Stripe, and Paige Balas of the Preservation Trust, trudged through the rain on Monday 17th and mapped out some good walking routes, the message being they are quieter, safer and pollution free.

The plan involved erecting, in advance of the day, a number of direction signs highlighting the options to ‘Walk the Side Streets’ – with a trail of spray chalk arrows at key points along the route. Although no monitoring of the action took place, it is believed that many people observed the signs and were considering using ‘the side streets’ for their travel in future.
