Energy from Waste – the Westbury Northacre plant
You may well be aware that a planning application for the construction of an advanced Energy from Waste (EfW) plant at Westbury has recently been approved by Wiltshire Council. It is a very conversational decision and objectors to the proposal have been very vocal in campaigning against it. The purpose of this note is to examine the case for and against Energy from Waste in comparison with the widely understood alternative of landfill and to try and indicate which one potentially does the least harm (in carbon footprint terms) to efforts to tackle climate change.
