Report of August meeting

Roger Jones reports: Andy Parsons spoke to us about GREENPEACE, of which he is a member in the Bath group.  Greenpeace is made up of locally based groups, such as the one in Bath, which support local and international campaigns.  Central direction means that they are generally well organised and well resourced.  Recent campaigns have included one for supporting sustainably sourced tuna, the protection of Antarctica, lobbying Barclays Bank to cease investing in fossil fuels and Volkswagen to abandon diesel engines.  Greenpeace is currently focusing on what is needed to do to progress to a greener future.  The Government has recently demonstrated that it is able to access huge sums to tackle the pandemic – but are we preparing for a green future post-Covid?
