Community involvement group

If we're going to solve the challenges of climate change we need to involve everyone and encourage them all to play their part in some way.

To do this we are working in a variety of ways with local councils, schools, businesses, churches and other community organisations.

Lots of the businesses in our community area are already signed up to our Carbon Neutral 2050 campaign.

If you are a local business and have not yet done so, we encourage you to sign and to display one of our attractive  Carbon Neutral 2050 stickers.  We'd really love to hear from you to tell us what you are already doing and how you plan to save carbon emissions at your business.

We can offer services such as thermal imaging to help you on your way and can lend you an energy mini meter so you can monitor your energy use and identify where changes can be made.

This is what some of the local businesses are doing:

  • a restaurant operates a near zero waste policy.  It is very careful about the amount of food it orders so there is a minimum amount of food waste. It sends some packaging back to the suppliers, who can re-use it and recycles just about everything else, including its coffee grounds that are collected weekly by a customer to use for compost!
  • A B&B encourages its guests to use their car as little as possible while in the area and finds the Active Travel Map useful for this.  Other B&Bs use the CFB 2050 guidelines to help them with their everyday activities.
  • A town centre retailer needs its lights on all day so is gradually changing over to LED bulbs and is already noticing a big difference in the energy bills.
  • another restaurant looked closely at its energy bills and changed its toilet lights to low energy bulbs and made sure cooker burners were not left on unnecessarily; it made a big difference to their bills!
