Community involvement group

If we're going to solve the challenges of climate change we need to involve everyone and encourage them all to play their part in some way.

To do this we are working in a variety of ways with local councils, schools, businesses, churches and other community organisations.

We have an excellent relationship with our local schools and work with them at a variety of levels.

We have led assemblies at all the schools, informing the students about a variety of climate change issues and encouraging them to play their part.  We regularly attend EcoGroup meetings at Fitzmaurice Primary and St Laurence.

All the schools were involved in the tree planting project in Barton Farm Country Park during 2008/09 and we planted a hedge around the school field at Holt Primary.  This is a fantastic way of enthusing the younger generation, the ones who are going to experience the real effects of climate change in the years to come.

The schools are increasingly interested in benefiting from our thermal imaging programme and we have already surveyed the Fitzmaurice Building at St Laurence and provided a detailed report.

In October 2011 St Laurence School hosted a Schools Eco Event afternoon, organised by CFB.  Every school in the area provided a display and gave a short celebratory presentation about all the environmental work they are involved in.  It was a rewarding event and lots of sharing and networking took place.

Many of the local schools have joined the EcoSchools project which.. "is an international award programme that guides schools on their sustainable journey, providing a framework to help embed these principles into the heart of school life" and are at various stages of participation:
